Back in Florida and a catastrophic hurricane is soon to approach.

My friends and family in the eye… evacuate if you can, homes and materials can be replaced… Those beyond the eye take every precaution and use the next 24 hour to finalize emergency plans and get your essentials… better to be over prepared than under prepared.

Navigating spaces where white dominant culture is

Navigating spaces where white dominant culture is the default or common go-to as a person and woman of color is not easy. Even in spaces with “good” intentions but little impact, you’ll sometimes encounter barriers and bureaucracy that doesn’t align with the core values (listed, posted, printed for all to see) of said space. So, what do you do?

📍Speak up and out - it can be scary, but it can be helpful for those that come after you
📍Document everything- keeping records or receipts highlights timelines and actions or lack thereof
📍Find allies- unfortunately, none may exist in your workspace, support is needed
📍Protect your health- especially mental health, overcoming barriers others erect can be exhausting
📍Maintain your position- don’t shrink your intelligence or expertise, keep your work ethic, and always remain integral

Seriously, nothing truly prepare someone for toxic or abusive work environments but everyone in those environments have a duty to change it, even if not a beneficiary of the change! That is true EDI work

Glad to be of service and support of others… I’m glad to be free of such a space, the rest I reserve to legal professionals (retaliation is real 🧐)

Some things and some people see the oil and the only thing they desire to do is draw from it... if you’re not careful they will deplete you.

I declare that you’re an oil tycoon and you’re getting ready to tap into an untouched oil reservoir!

I declare that the oil on your life is a shield and everything and everyone that is sent to disrupt, distract, destroy, dismantle, deplete, deter you can’t stick and won’t stick!

I declare that your oil will fuel the fire that will consume your enemy his agents and devices!
